Pseudo-Thanksgiving

Pictures!!!!!! are already online from today’s Pseudo-Thanksgiving party. Enjoy!

Oh, yeah, and there’s a new poll. Don’t forget to vote!

Resurrecting Deep Throat

What is it with Bob Woodward? It’s like he just can’t be content unless the whole nation knows he has a secret.

First there was deep throat, and granted, that was a huge secret for many years. But once we all found out that it was just Mark Felt, the whole word was like, “Who?” I think it the lack of a whoop-de-doo was kind of a letdown for Woodward. First off, Vanity Fair scooped him on his own story. Second, it was news for about 15 minutes, and everyone moved on. The shroud of mystery was gone and Woodward was no longer a vault, but just a journalist. (But to his credit, a credible and well-respected journalist.)The mystery often is better than the truth.

So now, he comes out and says that in fact someone told him about Valerie Plame first. So na na na. He’s got a secret once more. But I bet Woodward doesn’t let this secret sit in the vault for two long. In fact, he’s already hinting and saying who his source is NOT. So only about 5 1/2 billion more hints, and we’ll have his source nailed.

Since when are journalists supposed to be the news? Is there really not enough going on in the world that journalists can’t just suffer in jail for a few days to protect their sources like old times, instead of brokering deals with the government and doling out hints right and left? Next thing you know, the headline on the New York Times or the Washington Post will be: “Woodward eats ham sandwich at deli, denies reports that meat cutter leaked CIA info”

Can’t we all just go back to being mad about the President, the war, the weather or whatever?

And Then There Were Two

Jenelle posted an entry below, so make sure you read that. 🙂

Many of you know that I have two friends named Adam, both of whom were groomsmen at our wedding. Adam W. is getting married on December 17 in Pennsylvania, and I plan to be in attendance. Over the weekend, I learned that Adam H. recently got engaged, and he will be gettting married on August 5, 2006! I’ll try and get a picture of each of these two happy couples for a future post. For now, let me just say:

Congratulations, Adam!   Congratulations, Adam!

In other news, I have restored the “number of comments” feature. I originally had trouble getting the number to update itself after someone posted a comment, so I took the number part of it out. Whatever the problem was, I think it’s gone now. So, step up to the virtual microphone!

I feel the love!

So, I hear that many of you want to hear more about what’s going on with Jenelle. So here I am ready to answer all your questions. The truth is, I’ve been really busy at work and just haven’t gotten around to posting much lately. And I don’t anticipate much of a slow down at work before the holiday closing.

As many of you know, we’re heading to Oregon for a couple days over Thanksgiving. I’d love to see as many of you as possible, but we will be in only for a couple days. We’re planning to take a little road trip to Seattle on Saturday and Sunday, so we won’t be in Portland that much. Just for Turkey Day and then Shopping Day. It’s practically a tradition. Brave the crowds and hope for a bargain.

In anticipation of the holidays, I spent the afternoon steaming pumpkins. Since Halloween is over, Wal-Mart was having a special on pumpkins — 25 cents each. So we got a couple and I made a complete mess out of the kitchen getting them all steamed, mashed and frozen. Here’s a tip. Don’t take the lid off when you’re using the blender, but more importantly, don’t stick the spatula into the blender while it’s turned on. You’ll get one big shredded plastic mess. If any of you accidentally get a bite of purple plastic in your pumpkin pie this holiday, I apologize profusely.

Next order of business — restitching some throw pillows I had opened up to redistribute the batting. Call me Martha.

Is anyone else annoyed that now you can’t see how many comments have been posted for a particular posting? I’ll have to talk with Ben and see if we can fix that.

Movie added

Someone in the poll said they wanted more movies. So, I found one from Easter that I took using my digital camera. Aunt Gail would pretend to “chase” Ella, who would run around the corner and hide. After a moment, Ella would check to see if Gail was still there. Noticing that, yes, Gail was still there, Ella would run back to her previous spot. Very cute. Here it is.

This clip is about seven months old, which means that Ella is about 37% older now than she was when this movie was taken. It’s amazing how much she’s grown.

And this is the perfect time for me to plug the sites that feature Ella, Lily, Andrew, and Holly (a.k.a. my brother and his family). They’ve got a weblog, photos, and movies. Enjoy!

Out of nowhere

Here’s a recap of the Northwestern-Iowa game that Jenelle and I attended earlier today. We were present for the entire game, but we almost left late in the 4th quarter when Iowa was about to kick a field goal and take a 16-point lead. The field goal attempt was unsuccessful, and the deficit remained at 13. NU drove the length of the field, and then we were down by 6 points with 2:10 to play. An absolutely perfect onside kick gave us the ball, and we scored again. NU ended up winning 28-27. I was THERE, and I am still amazed at how quickly things turned around.

Early November updates

There’s not as much exciting new stuff here as there was last week, but here’s a few tasty nuggets:

1) There’s a new poll. Have you voted?
2) Our wish lists have been updated. Just click on Ben or Jenelle next to “Gifts” on the navigation bar at the top. If you want your list online as well, let me know.
3) The BenCam is now hosted at my new account instead of my .Mac account. Yawn.
4) I might be running another marathon soon. Check the Running Log for details.

New old photos

Be sure to read the “Something Neat” post below about a game I recently added to the site.

In other news, as I was transferring old photo albums from .Mac into Shutterfly, I noticed that I had never published an album of photos from our party on July 3, 2005 and the parade on July 4, 2005. I just put it online, and you can enjoy this album here.

Something Neat

My new hosting plan has inspired me to try some different things with the world wide web. When I’m not busy transferring my .Mac photo albums over to our Shutterfly account or moving the Disney Journal, I’m working on my second project involving PHP and MySQL databases (This Day in Isaacson Family History was the first).

I am wondering:

  1. Do you enjoy games where you have to use your brain?
  2. Have you heard of a board game called Mastermind?
  3. Are you related to me, or do you know several of the people in my family?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions (and even if you didn’t), you might enjoy the game I just created. Introducing…

Family Series

Give it a try, and let me know what you think of it. If you’re confused, there’s an instructions link here and in the bottom left corner of the game screen. Party on!

We’ve moved… sorta

The site of this blog moved today from http://ibenj.blogspot.com to its new home at http://www.benandjenelle.com. This probably doesn’t mean a lot to the average reader. However, it will help me tremendously. By hosting the blog through my own plan, I can do some neat things with site content.

For example: Check out the POLL in the right-hand column. I’ll be updating the poll every so often to keep things exciting. And, yes, I’m open to suggestions on what the next poll question should be. 🙂

Anyway, let me know if the change is causing you trouble. I tried to make the move as smoothly as possible.
